Woodbridge Community Sports Facility

Woodbridge Soccer Club, in conjunction with Woodbridge Cricket Club, has submitted an application to build new facilities, comprising changing rooms and clubroom at the western (upper) end of Woodbridge Oval. Kingborough Council has approved funding of $120,000, with a further $80,000 to come in a grant from Sport and Recreation Tasmania. The balance is to be made up in the form of in-kind contributions from the two clubs. This will obviously require substantial input of time and effort from all our members. Please think about what you can contribute to this substantial investment in the future of sport in this area and contact us with your ideas/suggestions.

Final details are yet to be determined but it is hoped that the project will be completed in 2012. We will be meeting with Council soon to discuss the way forward. Watch this space.

Friday 11th March

Competitions Kick Off:
Saturday 9th April

Since we will not be permitted to add further teams after this date, interested players are urged to come along and register at training on Thursday 3rd or Thursday10th March so that appropriate teams can be nominated.

Coaches and team managers:
Each team nominated will need a coach and team manager (or parent helper) to organise and supervise their child's team. No previous involvement with soccer is required in order to undertake these roles, as the emphasis in junior football is on participation and enjoyment, not on winning or losing. Free introductory coaching courses are run by the Football Federation of Tasmania prior to the start of the season, with higher level formal coaching qualifications also available to those who are interested.

As you know our club is run by volunteers and these last positions - coaches and team managers - are vitally important to the club's ability to provide this social and sporting outlet for the youngsters in our area. So please consider getting involved, help support the young people in our community.

Congratulations Aiden

Congratulations to Aiden lately of the WSC Under 16 team, who has been invited to tour Brazil in August 2011 as part of an Australian Vikings futsal squad. Aiden impressed selectors with an outstanding performance in goals for one of the Southern Tasmanian teams at the National Schools Futsal Titles in Brisbane in September. The South Tassie team - which also included Jy and Bolan from the WSC U16 team - finished the tournament in 3rd spot on their ladder – a great result for a Tassie team competing against squads from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. It is also, I think, a pretty good indication of the sort of player development that happens at our club.

The futsal trip to Brazil will include specialised training with some of the country's finest coaches, a number of games and a tournament against local youth teams, plus the chance to experience a country where futsal and football are an integral part of the culture. According to Brian Keightley, the trip's organiser, the tour of Brazil is one of Vikings Futsal Australia's premier tours.

What a great opportunity, well done Aiden!
